WHO AM I?
I am a talented, dedicated, passionate teacher with demonstrable experience of adapting to my audience. I have been teaching for 45 years, and recently retired after 19 years at Rustenburg Girls High School (RGHS), one of the top schools in Cape Town.
During my time at RGHS, I grew what was a small department of French with less than 100 learners to a substantial department with over 300 learners, with consistently high results between 75 - 100 percent across all grades. I also held the position of the Western Cape Provincial Moderator for French and National Examiner for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations (matric level) for many years.
In my career, I have taught at primary and secondary level in schools, as well as at the tertiary level at the University of Cape Town.
WHY CHOOSE ME?
I am very aware that one cannot treat an adult like a child, a teenager like a preschooler and vice versa.
With school children, I am aware that not all educational systems suit all children. Furthermore, research shows that there are nine types of intelligence to be recognised; however, it is often the case that in a classroom of 30+ acknowledging these is not always possible and therefore occasional support is needed. In supporting your child, I will tailor my teaching style to meet their needs using a variety of techniques to achieve the best possible outcome.
With adults, there are distinct differences in experiences and expectations. I will work with you to understand your desired French-language goals, and to set realistic targets; we will then work towards these through a mix of conversation, reading and comprehension and lesson plans to reach your French-language goals, even if it has been a long time since you last studied.
